Sculpture Statement

Most of my sculpture can be seen as a metaphor for human wholeness. Just as we become whole through our relationships with others, the works become whole when joined together. I am trying to communicate an essential completeness that results from two objects intimately sharing the same space. In many of the works I am trying to capture a moment of transformation, as if the pieces were pulling and twisting themselves, reacting to each other. Sometimes they struggle. Sometimes they are engaged in an intimate embrace. Sometimes they seem to be dancing or growing.

Hardwoods are attractive as an artistic medium because of their natural beauty. Their grain patterns always offer nice surprises. Wood is very comfortable and approachable. People are naturally compelled to run their hands across their surface. That soft shiny surface can be mesmerizing with its illusion of depth and rich, warm colors.
