Photography Statement

In this body of work I am interested in the expressive qualities of my abstract sculpture as it is integrated with the human body. I am trying to show that the body and wood are both equally sculptural and beautiful. Black and white photography brings the body and wood closer together. Without color to distract the eye, forms and textures can be woven and compared with each other.

Using nude models adds a sensuous quality to the work that I feel is very appropriate. For me, hardwoods are by themselves very sensuous. A beautifully finished wood object will immediate elicit a desire to touch that object. I believe my abstract forms can be as sexy as the nude model.

The power of photography to convey an artistic message has impressed me. I believe these photographs express how I feel about my woodwork more directly than the sculptures by themselves do.
